Ex-Hainan top official gets life
TAN Li, a former vice governor of south China’s Hainan Province, has been sentenced to life in prison for taking bribes, Guangzhou City Intermediate People’s Court said yesterday.
Between 2001 and 2014, Tan took advantage of various posts in Sichuan and Hainan provinces to seek benefits for others in enterprise developments, project construction and arbitration award implementation.
In return, he accepted money or gifts amounting 86.25 million yuan (US$12.8 million) himself or through “affiliated persons,” the court said.
In passing sentence, the court said, it had taken into account the fact that Tan had “truthfully confessed” to his crimes, including many acts that had yet to be discovered by investigators at the time, and that he had shown repentance and was cooperative in surrendering his illegal gains.
