A FORMER senior provincial political advisor in Zhejiang Province has been sentenced to life in jail for bribery and power abuse.
Dai Beijun, chairman of the Human Resources and Environment Committee of Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, was also deprived of political rights for life, according to a verdict handed down by a first instance court in Hangzhou.
Dai was convicted of taking 4 million yuan (US$585,823) in bribes and abusing power from 1996 to 2008.
The court said on Friday when Dai served as the provincial environmental bureau chief, he ordered all industrial polluters to use pollutant discharge monitoring devices produced by a company reportedly controlled by his mistress Zhang Yan.
