Ex-airport chair held on corruption charge

THE former chairman of the company that manages Beijing International Airport has been detained over a corruption case 10 years ago.

Zhang Zhizhong, 60-year-old former chairman of Capital Airport Holding Co, was detained last Thursday, according to the Website of the Supreme People's Procuratorate yesterday.

It was reported that Zhang would retire in a few months before he was put under double designation status this March.

Double designation is when a Party official is ordered to answer allegations of disciplinary violations or corruption at a designated time and place.

An insider told the Website that Zhang was implicated in a 10-year-old corruption case and is suspected of receiving hundreds of thousands of yuan in bribes. The Party disciplinary watchdog was investigating the case.

Zhang was the head of the transportation office in the Civil Aviation Administration 10 years ago.

The insider said Zhang was accused of taking the money from a private travel agency and giving it the monopoly on a popular air route.
