Exam papers 'marked by students'
THOUSANDS of college entrance exam papers in Xi'an in northwest China could have been marked by undergraduate students, it has been claimed.
A senior student at Xi'an International Studies University said she marked more than 2,000 papers in less than two days last year. In return, she received 500 yuan (US$77.15), yesterday's New Express Daily reported.
The student, identified as Lin Lan, said nearly 100 students took part in grading the make-or-break test last year. They had a two-and-a-half hour orientation during which they were told to keep their work a secret.
But the head of the Xi'an International Studies University in Shaanxi Province told the newspaper: "It is impossible for us to allow unqualified undergraduates to score papers."
Only qualified high school teachers and postgraduates were allowed to mark papers, he said.
However, several students said they began reviewing papers from June 11, three days after this year's exam had ended.
