Ex-convict kills friend's family for stealing his wife

A man was sentenced to death for slaying seven relatives of his friend who lived with his estranged wife, an intermediate court in Huai'an, Jiangsu Province said yesterday.

Zheng Lu, 32, committed the atrocity in the home of his friend Wang Qing on September 3 in Xuyi County. Among the dead were a 72-year-old man, a six-year-old child, and a pregnant woman.

Wang Qing and Zheng's wife, identified as Xiao Li, fell in love in 2009 when Zheng Lu was held in jail for theft. The pair was not in the house at the time of the killing rampage, the court said.

Zheng was very brutal to his wife after she asked for a divorce soon after he was released last August. He even stabbed her legs with a knife and chopsticks in outrage. Xiao Li couldn't bear it and moved to Wang Qing's home, the court heard.

Zheng turned his hatred toward Wang Qing because they committed the theft together but he didn't mention Wang when being interrogated by police as he believed in brotherly loyalty. As a result, Wang avoided punishment, the court said.

But Wang betrayed Zheng and had love affair with Xiao Li. "If he hadn't seduced my wife, I wouldn't have killed his family," Zheng said in the court.
