Ex-convict robber aids mug victim, gets stabbed
AN ex-convict of robbery has been hailed as a hero after being stabbed while trying to stop three men snatching a bag in south China's Guangdong Province.
Huang Dongtao, 33, is out of danger after medical treatment and Guangzhou police want to reward him, yesterday's New Express newspaper reported.
The local government is covering his medical cost and police are still hunting for the three robbers.
Huang was having supper near Xijiao Ecological Park in Guangzhou's Liwan District when he heard a woman struggling against three robbers 100 meters away, the store owner told the newspaper.
Huang jumped in, trying to snatch back the woman's purse, but was stabbed twice in the back before they dropped the bag and escaped.
Injured Huang went to a security guard office of the park to plead for help but was rejected by the guard on duty.
The delay in medical help worsened his injuries, Huang told New Express.
The guard, however, told the newspaper that he was on duty and should not leave the office. Besides, he thought Huang was not very seriously injured because he was walking to the office on his own.
Huang said he sprinted to stop them because he hated crime after serving four years for robbery.
He concealed the prison life from his family in central China's Henan Province and didn't contact his family until late last year when he was out of jail.
It was then that he knew his beloved father had passed away a year before. Since being released, he bought a tricycle and started a delivery business.
