Ex-deputy governor sentenced to life on graft charges
YANG Zhenchao, former vice governor of east China's Anhui Province, was sentenced to life imprisonment for taking bribes, embezzlement and abusing power, Shanghai No. 1 Intermediate People’s Court announced the verdict on Wednesday.
Yang took advantage of his position to seek benefits for others and accepted bribes worth over 80.84 million yuan while he was the Party chief of Huainan City and vice governor of the province from 2008 to 2016, the court heard, according to Xinhua news agency.
Yang embezzled 1.15 million yuan and caused the loss of state assets of 915 million yuan.
Yang pleaded guilty and was given a lighter sentence, the court said.
