Ex-employee torches his factory in revenge

A worker set fire to his factory yesterday in revenge for not receiving his full pay and the fire caused several explosions and a power outage in the surrounding area for more than three hours.

The fire occurred around 2pm in an LCD factory in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong Province. More than 1,000 workers evacuated safely but two were admitted to a hospital for inhaling black smoke. No one died in the incident.

The worker surnamed Hu has been detained by police while the investigation is still ongoing, the News Express reported today.

Some workers said Hu, 20, quitted his job several days ago and the factory refused to pay his full salary.

But an unnamed co-worker said the young man was often punished for his poor performance before he quit. "He might just want to vent his anger," he said.
