Exploring For Peaceful Purposes
A Defense Ministry spokesman yesterday reiterated China's wishes to explore space for peaceful purposes and its firm opposition to the weaponization of space programs.
Geng Yansheng was responding to a question about the launch of the Tiangong-1, China's first space lab. Media reports have implied the module may be used for military purposes. But Geng said: "The military enjoys unique advantages in organizing and coordinating such large-scale activities, and its involvement in aerospace missions is an international practice."
