A gas explosion at an illegal coal mine in Sichuan Province killed four miners and injured three, said local officials yesterday.
Seven people were in the pit when the accident happened on Friday evening in Xuanhan County, Dazhou City. Three escaped with injuries but four were trapped underground until they were found dead on Saturday evening, according to the county's publicity officials.
Police have detained three people in relation to the accident and an investigation is under way.
