Explosion rocks Shenyang underground passage, casualties unclear
An explosion hit an underground passage in front of a shopping mall this morning in Shenyang City, capital of Liaoning Province.
The blast shattered windows and blood stains could be seen on the ground, local news portal, www.nen.com.cn, reported. There was no immediate reports of casualties.
The blast's shock wave could be felt 1 kilometer away, residents were quoted a saying. A witness wrote on Weibo.com that passersby were sent flying through the air.
Firefighters rushed to the scene near Shenyang New World Department Store and police have condoned off Zhonghua Road, the report said.
Traffic police at the scene suggested the accident may have been caused by a coal gas pipeline explosion, but nothing has been confirmed by authorities, the report said.
