Explosives accident deaths reach 8, another 300 injured
THE death toll in a deadly explosives accident at an expressway off-ramp near Fuquan City in southwest China's Guizhou Province rose to eight with another 300 reported injured by 10pm last night.
The accident happened around 11:30am yesterday, when two cargo trucks loaded with about 72 tons of explosives exploded in front of a vehicle testing station, according to the local rescue headquarters, Xinhua news agency reported today.
Rescuers are using life detectors and sniff dogs to search for survivors among the debris.
Windows in nearby houses were shattered and cars parked near the site were severely damaged. A grain warehouse in the vicinity of the explosion was seriously damaged as well.
The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation.
