Ex-police chief charged with murder
Zhao Liping, a retired top political adviser and former police chief, has been charged with murder, taking bribes and illegal possession of firearms, ammunition and explosives, the Supreme People’s Procuratorate said yesterday.
The murder charge concerns the fatal shooting of a woman, said to be the 65-year-old’s mistress, in Chifeng, a city in north China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, on March 20 last year, about 16 months after he retired as deputy chairman of the regional political advisory body.
Zhao is also accused of accepting bribes and using his position to seek benefits for businesses and officials when he was director of the Inner Mongolia Public Security Department from 2005 to 2012.
Zhao was expelled from the Party in July 31 last year.
Zhao, a native of north China’s Hebei Province, joined the police force in northeast China’s Jilin Province in 1972. He was transferred to Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in 1979 and promoted to police chief in 2005.
