Ex-police chief charged
A former police chief has been charged with corruption after he was sacked for allowing his drunk son to be set free despite having attacked a policeman.
Li Yali held the post in Taiyuan, a city about 500 kilometers southwest of Beijing, until last year, when footage of his son’s drunken violence went viral on the Internet.
Li Zhengyuan had been stopped on suspicion of driving under the influence in October 2012 and found to be drunk. He attacked a police officer, who then walked him home instead of arresting him, Xinhua news agency said.
A Party investigation found that his father had abused his power while handling the case, and he has now been arrested and charged with accepting bribes.
