APPRECIATION of the yuan and weak global demand were the two main triggers for the slowdown in China's exports in May, the commerce ministry said yesterday.

A survey of 1,015 companies also cited rising costs, competition and trade conflicts as contributing to May's 1 percent rise compared to April's 14.7 percent boost.
