Expressways smoother
NO serious traffic jams like those on the first day of the holiday break were reported on the nation's expressways yesterday, the Ministry of Public Security reported.
Traffic improved greatly compared to Sunday, the first day of the toll-free policy, however it was still heavier than the same period over a year ago.
Vehicles leaving Shanghai yesterday dropped 37.9 percent compared to the previous day but numbers were still up 26.8 percent year on year. The number of vehicles leaving Beijing fell 31 percent compared to Sunday but were 60 percent up on a year ago.
