Ex-urban management director of district where disastrous dump site collapse happened jumps to death
A man who used to manage an area in which a questionable dump site collpased, killing seven people and left 75 missing, committed suicide yesterday night, said police from Shenzhen, south China.
The man, surnamed Xu, former director of the Guangming New Area Urban Management Bureau, jumped to death in a residential complex in the Nanshan District around 9pm, police said.
Police didn't connect his death to the disastrous landslide on Hengtaiyu industrial park in the Guangming New District, which covered 380,000 square meters, burying or damaging 33 buildings.
A State Council investigation team found it was a work safety incident caused by the collapse of a huge pile of construction waste.
Actually, local authorities have ordered the site to suspend in September as its permit to receive waste had expired
