Ex-wife accuses official
A HOUSING official in east China's Anhui Province is being investigated after his 17-year-old son and ex-wife accused him of corruption.
To secure evidence to support their claims, the boy and his mother stayed in the official's office and guarded three safes for eight days until the local disciplinary officials and prosecutors arrived and found cash, bank accounts, shopping cards and other valuables such as jade artifacts and jewelry in the safes, Anhui's Xin'an Evening News reported yesterday.
The official, named as Liu by the newspaper, was director of Dangshan County's housing bureau.
His son said Liu had been abusing his ex-wife even after they divorced in 2005 and had an extramarital relationship with another woman.
The son drafted a complaint letter and issued more than 100 copies to the local disciplinary authority and residents, he told the newspaper. He also posted the letter online.
He and his mother moved into Liu's office on February 11 to watch over the three safes. To prevent them being opened before the authorities arrive, the mother had tied herself to the safes, she told the newspaper.
The local disciplinary officials arrived on February 20 and opened the safes in front of the son and mother. Liu was then taken away.
