Ex-wife 鈥榖urns love rival alive on city street鈥

A WOMAN allegedly killed her ex-husband’s mistress by dousing her in gasoline and setting her alight on a street in Kunming, capital of southwest China’s Yunnan Province, before trying to commit suicide.
The suspect, surnamed Shi, reportedly said that she carried out the attack because her victim, who was not named, “forced me to get divorce.”
After the attack, Shi drank pesticide and cut herself with a knife, local news portal, www.yunnan.cn reported.
Shi was taken to hospital and was said to be in a serious condition.
The incident occurred near a tea house at around 9:30pm on Friday.
The tea house owner, surnamed Liu, said Shi, who was holding a bucket, followed her victim and that the pair were arguing.
Liu said he heard Shi accuse her victim of seducing her husband, but the other woman did not respond.
Shi is then said to have sprayed her victim with chili.
Afterward, she rushed to a restaurant across the street and picked up a bucket of gasoline. Shi poured the gas on her victim and set her alight, Liu said.
Passersby tried in vain to put out the flames before finally the woman collapsed.
Shi ran to a corner where she had apparently hidden a bottle of pesticide, drank some and began foaming at the mouth. When passersby went over, she took out a knife and hacked at her chest and abdomen, it is reported.
Shi was carried to an ambulance, reportedly murmuring, “As a woman, I have no reason to live, I don’t want to live.”
It was reported that Shi had worked in a hotel but quit. Her ex-husband is said to be a bus driver. The couple have a daughter who will enter college this year.
Police investigations into the incident are continuing.
