Fake film director cons deaf-mute girls

TWO deaf-mute girls aspiring to become film stars have fallen victims to a fraudster who allegedly posed as a film director and swindled 4,000 yuan (US$585.94) from them after having sex with them.

Beijing police have arrested a man surnamed Lei on a charge of fraud, today's Beijing News reported.

Lei, who had worked in menial jobs with some film crews, claimed online last October that he was a director recruiting actresses for his new movie, prosecutor Zhang Wei told the newspaper.

The notice attracted the two girls who later contacted Lei via phone messages.

Lei refused the girls at first but finally agreed to meet them because the two hinted "they could do anything so long as they could play roles in a film," he allegedly told the prosecutor.

On October 29, Lei met the girls at a hotel and had sex with them. Afterward, he allegedly swindled more than 4,000 yuan from the two on various pretexts.
