'Fake' students facing expulsion from college
STUDENTS who enrolled in a college in central China's Henan Province as sports majors with fake certificates they bought from 60,000 yuan (US$8,790) to 100,000 yuan are to be expelled.
Nanyang Normal College has asked its sports school to double check students' documents, the college's recruitment director Wang Qinglin told yesterday's China Youth Daily.
The college was granted the right to arrange independent recruitment for sports majors in 2004 -- a program to offer college education for sports majors who may have expertise in one sports event but were poor at other academic programs.
But the program had been targeted by non-sporting students with poor academic performance. In Henan, some colleges provide enrollment training for sports majors, charging 60,000 yuan to 100,000 yuan, a student said.
