False Expo threat tip leads to arrest
POLICE in Hebei Province detained a man for an alleged public security disturbance after he falsely reported that someone is planning bomb attacks at the World Expo to be held in Shanghai in May.
The suspect surnamed Guo from Henshui City in Hubei called police in Shanghai claiming he knew that someone in a group of gangsters was planning terrorist attacks targeting the six-month event. Police later confirmed that as a false alarm, reported Xinhua yesterday.
The Henshui City police bureau started an investigation after counterparts in Shanghai informed them about the false terrorist threat.
The Henshui police soon found that Guo planned the false tip-off in the hope that police could arrest the group that he informed on.
He got into touch with the group, which was selling counterfeit money, in January, the Hanshui police said.
But he got in disputes with them after he was cheated in a proposed deal.
