Famed songwriter barred from driving
A judge of the popular TV program, China's Got Talent, had his driving licence revoked today and was banned from driving for five years after he was convicted of drunk driving.
Gao Xiaosong, a 42-year-old songwriter, was also fined 1,000 yuan (US$153.9) for holding an expired license. He was caught on the night of May 9 after his car triggered a chain-reaction collision that involved four vehicles, Beijing Dongcheng District No.4 People's Court said today.
Gao, wearing an orange prison vest, didn't seek an appeal and showed calm when listening to his verdict, China National Radio reported. He will stand an open trial tomorrow.
He may face detention of between one to six months if he is convicted of "dangerous driving" under new traffic law that took effect on May 1.
