Family accuse teacher of beating their boy to death
POLICE in eastern Shandong Province are probing the death of a middle school student whose parents claimed he was beaten by a teacher but the school denied their claim.
Fan Pengfei, a grade-two student of the No. 1 Middle School of Zouping County, was asked out for a talk by his teacher surnamed Chai after Fan and another student made a noise in the classroom at 8pm on March 11, said the school's deputy headmaster surnamed Feng.
Fan and his teacher were thought to have chatted for about 15 minutes outside the building when the boy suddenly fell to ground and fainted, Feng said.
Feng said Chai immediately called the hospital and rushed the boy to the hospital at 8:30pm. But Fan was pronounced dead from sudden cardiac attack at 9pm.
Feng said the parents refused to report to police and asked the school to pay 700,000 yuan (US$106,780.8) in compensation. But the school rejected their demand and their negotiation has since been in a deadlock.
However, Fan's family had a different version of the story.
Fan's uncle said the boy's skull had two fissures both stretching 7.5 centimeters, and his neck and elbow were bruised as revealed in an autopsy witnessed by the family. His shoes, socks and eyeglasses were not with him and a footprint was found at the back of his pants.
"It was impossible for him to die from heart disease. There is no history of such disease in our family at all," Fan's uncle said.
He added that Fan might be beaten to death by Chai for revenge. The boy blurred some harsh words when he saw Chai missed a shot in a basketball match in afternoon -- hours before his death. Chai allegedly beat Fan up at the court and he might continue to vent his anger in the evening.
