Family and marriage popular

Traditional family structures remain popular among young Chinese with 59 percent saying they want to have a child within two years of marriage, a survey said.

As Chinese culture encourages parents to be deeply involved in their adult children’s relationships, living together with their children is the traditional and most expected family pattern for most Chinese youth, according to the dating and marriage survey conducted with 3,082 respondents from different regions and fields.

The survey showed that six percent of respondents chose a dual income, no kids, or DINK, lifestyle.

The survey also found that nearly 60 percent of young Chinese are willing to have two children.

After more than 30 years of a one-child family planning policy, China began to allow all couples to have two children in 2016.

The survey was released recently by the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League.
