Family of crushed woman paid 600,000 yuan
THE family of a woman killed by an excavator when she tried to stop a river widening project that pose threat to village houses received an one-off compensation of 600,000 yuan (US$90,655) from Zhengyang County government in Henan Province.
The county government said in a statement yesterday that the relatives of Li Li, 38, had accepted the compensation and the body was cremated last week.
The statement also said five officials, including the county's deputy governor, Liu Yixiu, received punishment in connection with the accident. Earlier, Min Huaimin, director of Zhengyang County Water Conservancy Bureau, was sacked.
The mother of two teenagers died after slipping in the mud and into the path of the excavator on January 2, the statement said.
