Farmer says no regret for killing 6 under wheels

A farmer in central China's Hunan Province showed no remorse for killing six people and injuring three others in May at a trial yesterday, saying he had long wanted to kill.

Tian Shengming, 44, was charged with murder, endangering public security and illegal possession of firearms at the Zhangjiajie Intermediate People's Court.

Prosecutors said Tian went on a killing rampage on May 28 after quarreling with one victim who owed him 50 yuan in card games. Tian killed him under the wheels of his farm vehicle.

He then drove onto a road and damaged four vehicles parked on the side. He also knocked down the wall of a house standing by the road, the court heard.

Prosecutors said Tian continued driving toward a crowded area of Zhangjiajie City, smashing vehicles and hitting innocent people. Three passers-by died at the scene and two died later in hospital.

If his vehicle had not been stuck by a motorcycle, he would have driven into a nearby school and hit students there, the court heard.
