Fatal drag race driver arrested
POLICE have arrested the drag racer whose car struck and killed a pedestrian in downtown Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang Province,the China News Service reported.
Hangzhou's prosecutors yesterday approved the police application to issue an arrest warrant for Hu Bing, who has been held responsible for the accident.
Hu, 20, a university student, was driving a speeding Mitsubishi sports car, when he hit Tan Zhuo, 25, on a pedestrian crossing on May 7. Tan flew five meters into the air before he hit the ground and died, Xinhua news agency reported.
Hu was held on vehicular manslaughter charges the next day.
Both Tan's family and Hu have agreed with the results of the police investigations, the China News Service report said.
According to a forensic report last week, speed was the cause of the accident.
The speed of the car was estimated to have been between 84.1 and 101.2 kilometers per hour at the time of the accident.
The car had been modified to go faster. The engine, exhaust system and tires had been refitted.
