Father kept girl locked up 11 years
A 12-YEAR-OLD girl has been found to have the mind of a two-year-old after being locked up by her father for 11 years in central China.
The father said he shut her in his home to prevent others discovering her poor intelligence and disabilities, yesterday's Orient Today reported.
Both survived a housing collapse in 1999 that killed her mother and elder sister, father Han Zibing told the newspaper.
Since then, they stayed in a 5-square-meter kitchen of Han's younger brother's home in Xiping County of Henan Province.
The girl only learned to walk at six and still can't speak, he said. But he denied abusing her, saying he gave her eggs to eat each day.
A local health center has offered free rehabilitation for the girl, and the family has been given subsidies by the local government.
