Father locks up disabled daughter for 12 years
A 12-YEAR-OLD girl has been found to have the mind of a two-year-old after being locked up by her father for 11 years in a central China village.
The father said he shut her in his home to prevent others discovering her poor intelligence and disabilities, today's Orient Today reported.
Both survived a housing collapse in 1999 that killed her mother and elder sister, father Han Zibing told the newspaper.
Since then, they stayed in a 5-square-meter kitchen in Xiping County of Henan Province's Zhumadian City.
The girl only learned to walk at six and still can't speak, but Han denied abuse, saying he gave her all the eggs he could afford.
A health center in Zhumadian offered to provide free rehabilitation for the girl and the family has been given subsidies.
