Father urged not to stop treatment for daughter
INTERNET users have urged a father not to stop medical treatment for his seriously deformed daughter, who is in a terminal care hospital ward in north China.
The father sent the daughter to the hospital in Tianjin Municipality where the baby was being fed only water, yesterday's Guangzhou Daily reported.
The girl's story was posted on the Tianya.cn Website two days ago and attracted more than 100,000 comments, some sympathized with the father's decision but others urging him to fight for her survival.
More than a dozen members of a hastily assembled "Love Mother League" gathered at the hospital to protest his decision.
According to the post, the girl suffered a variety of congenital deformities and, after 13 days of treatment, the family decided to stop further treatment.
They transferred the baby to the terminal care hospital.
The hospital told Guangzhou Daily that it would respect the parents' decision.
The father said the decision was taken not because of money, but because he didn't want the baby to suffer any more.
Meanwhile, in Gaochun County of east China's Jiangsu Province, a female farmer has spent all her savings to save her adopted daughter who has leukemia, yesterday's Yangtse Evening News reported.
Chen Yuhua, 33, has borrowed another 200,000 yuan (US$29,295) to cure the four-year-old, who was abandoned on her doorstep when just five days old.
