A father's harsh upbringing has aroused wide controversy on the Internet after an online video showed his four-year-old son was running against a blizzard wearing only pants.
The boy, nicknamed Duo Duo, was running with a trainer in New York City where he and his father from Nanjing, the capital of east China's Jiangsu Province, spent their Spring Festival. He was seen wearing only pants in a temperature of minus 13 degrees Celsius. His father surnamed He later uploaded the video, the Yangtze Evening News reported today.
It was not the first time Duo Duo went through such a cruel, military-like training. His father has worked out a scheme to make Duo Duo, a premature baby born with complications, grow strong and tough.
He claimed himself as the "eagle dad," training the child the way of an eagle that pushes a fledgling chick off the cliff and let it learn to fly. He told the newspaper that his scheme has proven effective. Duo Duo is now in perfect health and his intelligence quotient has reached 218, enabling him to advance to the primary school.
The video sparked a heated discussion on the Internet. Some netizens sided with the father while others criticized his upbringing method as being too harsh.
