Father's decade of abuse

A FATHER has been arrested in south China's Guangdong Province for allegedly sexually harassing and raping his daughter for nearly a decade.
Haizhu District People's Procuratorate Office in Guangzhou City, has approved the arrest of the father surnamed Hu, the city's Information Times newspaper reported yesterday.
The daughter, now 22, told police that Hu, 50, started sexually harassing and molesting her from 2000 when she was a primary school pupil.
He raped her in July 2004 when she was 16 and then raped her every week till 2008, she told police.
She felt so deeply humiliated she had to quit school. But the rapes continued.
Finally, on July 1, after she had again been raped, she decided to call the police.
After Hu was arrested, his wife told police her daughter had complained of being raped by the father but she refused to believe it. Worried about the negative impact on the family, she opted to remain silent for many years.
