Female posing as man arrested for robbery, illegal detention
A FEMALE who pretended to be a man and took part in the robbery and illegal imprisonment of another woman, has been apprehended by police in northeastern Shandong Province.
The fugitive Feng Xiaotong, 31, has dressed and acted like a male for 17 years since her father was jailed for fraud. She went by a male name Xiao Hui and married a woman in 2008 as none of her acquaintances ever discovered her true gender, police said.
Feng was allegedly among the four who robbed a woman of 300 yuan (US$47.31) and a mobile phone on July 11, 2007, and imprisoned her for two days in Zaozhuang City, Qilu Evening News reported today.
The victim identified as Liu Xiaomei was dropped at a nearby hill on July 13 after she was imprisoned in Feng's home and gang raped by the other three men, police said.
Liu remembered the number plate number of Feng's motorcycle, helping police to track the criminal suspects down. But the police were confused after records showed Feng was a female, while Liu and the other three arrested men claimed Feng was a man.
Feng was apprehended on December 8. Doctors verified her gender, confirming that she never underwent any sex-change operations, the report said.
Police investigations found Feng hadn't engaged in the robbery and rape. But Feng is still being held for illegal imprisonment and awaiting her trial, the report said.
