Female teacher executed for student vice ring

A PROVISIONAL teacher has been executed in southwest China's Guizhou Province after being convicted of forcing 22 primary or middle school students and a young woman into prostitution in 2006.

The girls from Weining County were forced into prostitution between March and June 2006 after several teachers, including Zhao Qingmei and her husband Chi Yao, took them to hotels in Nayong County and Liupanshui City on the pretext of doing farm work or a holiday, according to today's Guizhou Daily.

Bijie Intermediate People's Court in Guizhou sentenced Zhao to death in December 2007. The Supreme People's Court recently approved the death penalty, which was upheld by Guizhou Higher People's court.

Zhao even helped her husband Chi to rape one of the girls, the report said. Chi received a suspended death sentence. The other defendants were sentenced to prison terms from one year to life imprisonment.

The gang members made 32,350 yuan (US$4,738) from their prostitution ring.
