Feng biggest winner at Golden Broom Awards

MAINLAND director Feng Xiaogang, Shanghai's stand-up comedian Zhou Libo and Taiwan actress Barbie Hsu have won this year's Golden Broom Awards, which honor the worst Chinese movies.

During the opening ceremony, performers brandished brooms - the award trophies. The Golden Broom Awards, China's equivalent of Hollywood's Razzie Awards, were handed out in Beijing on Tuesday. More than 200 movie fans and filmmakers attended the event while none of the "winners" were on hand to pick up their award.

"China's film industry should be nurtured with good movies instead of bad ones. There were very few movies that reflected the soul and destiny of our times," said movie critic Chen Qingsong, founder of the Golden Broom Awards and chief editor of Youth Film Handbook, on his microblog page on t.sina.com.cn.

Feng was the biggest "winner," taking home the most disappointing director award for his romance comedy "If You Are The One 2." He shared the award with Hu Mei, who directed "Confucius."

"If You Are The One 2" was named the most disappointing movie of the year.

Feng's disaster epic "Aftershock," which raked in a record box-office haul of more than 600 million yuan (US$91 million), earned an award for most disappointing imbedded adverts in a film.

Shanghai comedian Zhou surprisingly earned the most disappointing actor award for minor roles in costume dramas "Flirting Scholar 2" and "Adventure of The King."

Hsu was named the most disappointing actress for her roles in "Future X-Cops," "Reign of Assassins" and "Adventure of the King."

The Golden Broom Awards started in 2009.
