鈥楩ertility guru鈥 held over abuse claims
A man who hailed himself as a fertility guru online has been arrested for alleged rape and illegal medical practice, a local news website reported yesterday.
Hao Aizong started to give advice on infertility about four years ago and quickly gathered a 200,000 people strong following on microblogging site Weibo, where he shared his knowledge and promoted his treatment for infertility.
Last month, anonymous posts surfaced accusing the 48-year-old of sexually abusing patients at his clinic in Qingdao, a coastal city in east China鈥檚 Shandong Province. Some posts also raised doubts whether Hao had a professional license for his clinic, which he ran out of a rented apartment.
The posts soon went viral on the Internet and triggered heated discussion. Hao surrendered to police within a week. Prosecutors ratified his arrest last week, the provincial news portal (www.dzwww.com) reported yesterday.
An initial police investigation alleged that from 2012, Hao sexually molested and raped several patients and videotaped the abuse with his phone or monitoring camera, the news portal said.
Police also told the news website that Hao was neither qualified to treat infertility nor did he have a license for his Qingdao-based clinic.
A further investigation is still under way.
