Fingerprint analysis sucks money from parents
DERMATOGLYPHIC test has become popular among some kindergartens in Taiyuan, capital of north China's Shanxi Province as people claim it is capable of finding out a kid's intelligence and career potentials. But the test costs 1,200 yuan (US$190) each person.
Some experts, however, don't believe the claim, saying the test is unscientific and is aimed at making money, Beijing Times reported today.
The test is provided by Shanxi Daomeng Cultural Company. A company executive, Mei Mingzhi, says the test analyzes the fingerprints of a child and figures out what professional area he or she is most suited in when the child grows up.
But she refuses to elaborate their fingerprint decryption method, saying it is a business secret, the report said.
The company reportedly has given several kindergarten principals a lecture on the test and asked them to promote it to parents because the test can help parents choose the right profession for their child.
The report said those kindergartens charged 1,200 yuan per child for the test.
But some parents doubted the motive of Daomeng Cultural Company and they found the company owner was a director of a charity foundation under the Shanxi Provincial Bureau of Civil Affairs.
Zhao Yulin, a researcher of the Shanxi Academy of Social Sciences, says the test lacks scientific proof. "Those who do the test won't get punished when the child grows up and finds the test result totally wrong. But the wrong result may affect a child's entire life," he said.
