Fire set by foreman kills 1 worker and injures 7

A migrant worker was killed in a fire set by his foreman over a wage dispute and seven coworkers also got burned in this incidence in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in northwest China, the local Yaxin.com reported.

Li Ping, the foreman, allegedly poured gasoline on the floor of a bunkhouse where the workers were taking a nap on June 5 to force them to go to work. But they all refused to work due to the low pay. In a rage, Li set the bunkhouse ablaze, police said.

The eight workers fled the room in panic, but they all got burned. Li Jincheng, 43, was severely injured and died in hospital yesterday. The other seven had burns on their heads and limbs, according to the local police.

The foreman was detained by police immediately after the fire and will face criminal charges for his act. A police officer surnamed Huang, who is handling the case, said they are still gathering more evidences for indictment.
