Firefighter rescues girl from drugged-up dad

A TWO-YEAR-OLD toddler was saved by a firefighter on Tuesday morning in Chengdu, capital of Sichuan Province, after she was hung upside down by her father outside a window on the eighth floor.

Her father was identified as Hu Binjun, who reportedly was hallucinating at the time after taking crystal methamphetamine the night before, Chengdu Business News reported yesterday.

Hu, 34, was seen holding his daughter in his arms while sitting on the window ledge about 7:30am. Passers by and neighbors gathered downstairs nervously. Some women began to cry as men shouted obscenities at Hu.

Hu argued with his wife and threatened to jump out the window with his daughter if she allowed rescuers to enter their apartment.

Firefighter Chen Long failed on his first rescue attempt when he slid down a rope from the ninth floor and tried to grab the girl while his colleagues had laid out an air cushion on the ground.

About 10am, Hu, still in a fury, put his daughter on his shoulder and continued his verbal spat with his wife. He started swinging the girl's head and body outside the window. At 10:30am, Hu grabbed one of his daughter's legs and dangled her upside down outside the window.

She tried to grab the window frame, but failed when Hu stopped her.

Police and firefighter asked Hu's wife to distract him while firefighter Chen slid down through rope from the ninth floor again.

This time, the firefighter was successful in rescuing the little girl.

Hu was escorted by police into a police car as outraged onlookers tried to beat him.

Hu's wife said he took crystal meth the night before and went crazy about 5am.
