Firefighters rescue 150 and take thousands to safety in 'golden period'

FIREFIGHTERS located 165 people, including 150 survivors, in the first 72 hours since the earthquake hit on Saturday, the Ministry of Public Security said yesterday.
And they had moved 6,976 people to safety in the period dubbed the "golden" time for saving lives in a disaster.
Sichuan's fire department deployed 2,150 firefighters, 450 fire trucks and six sniffer dogs to join rescue efforts after the quake jolted Lushan County.
The ministry's fire department sent 224 firefighters, 46 fire trucks and five sniffer dogs from neighboring Chongqing Municipality.
Firefighters have set up 1,151 tents and distributed 1,827 tons of water.
