Fisherman's body arrives in Taiwan
The body of the 65-year-old Taiwan fisherman, who was killed when Philippines Coast Guards opened fire on his fishing boat, arrived in Taiwan on Saturday. The fishing boat was also returned.
The Philippines government earlier suspended the 11 coast guards involved in the fatal shooting of the Taiwan fisherman, adding a fully transparent investigation was underway. A Philippine fishery official expressed sympathy to the relatives of the victim killed on-board the fishing boat.
The incident happened Thursday morning, when a Filipino coast guard ship opened fire on the fishing boat. The boat was reported to be in disputed waters. Despite firing at and killing the fisherman, the Coast Guards reportedly chased the heavily damaged boat for well over an hour before it managed to escape.
