Five die in minivan plunge

FIVE people were killed and four were injured in a road crash yesterday in Yao'an County in southwest China's Yunnan Province.

A minivan hit the guardrails while driving to Chuxiong city at 1pm yesterday, plunging off the side and falling into a reservoir drain, Xinhua news agency reported today.

The minivan was carrying eight passengers plus the driver, two more than the maximum passenger capacity, the report said.

The four injured passengers are in a stable condition in hospital.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
