Five injured in cargo ship explosion
Four firefighters and a worker were injured last night after an explosion on a cargo ship under repair at a port in southeastern Fujian Province, China News Service reported today.
The blast happened on the 5,000-ton freight vessel about 8:35pm yesterday and soon led to a fire which trapped nine people onboard, according to Fuzhou City's fire brigade.
Firefighters immediately rushed to the port and rescued eight people, but one man was still trapped on the ship. As firemen prepared to conduct a new search, the cabin burst into fire, injuring four firefighters and a worker at the port, the Fuzhou fire brigade said.
Among the injured, one firefighter was in critical condition while the others were stable at a local hospital, according to the report.
The reason of the explosion is still under investigation.
