Five killed as bus crashes into pedestrians
FIVE pedestrians were killed, including two Hong Kong residents, and five injured yesterday afternoon after a bus crashed into pedestrians in the southern city of Shenzhen, local police said.
The accident occurred at about 1:10pm as a long-distance bus lost control and crashed into pedestrians near a parking lot in Luohu District, the Shenzhen public security bureau said in a statement.
Local police confirmed the number of the wounded increased to five by 8pm. All the injured pedestrians have been sent to the hospital for emergency treatment.
The driver, surnamed Deng, is being held by police and an investigation into the cause of the accident is under way, the statement said.
