Flexible checkout times for hotel guests
TOURISTS who stay in Chinese hotels may now be able to check in before 2pm and check out after noon under new regulations, Beijing Morning Post reported today.
The new laws allow hotels to choose to defer their checkout time or charge their guests for extra hours or half a day's stay, the report said.
According to the previous regulations passed in 2002 by China Tourist Hotels Association, guests could check in only after 2pm and must check out before 12am or face a half-day room fee for leaving before 6pm and the full tariff after 6pm.
This led to guest complaints, although the association maintained that this was in line with international practice. However, more than 300 star-grade hotels in more than 30 Chinese cities agreed to defer their checkout time to at least 2pm in a campaign proposed by Ctrip.com in June this year.
