Flight tickets website removing unlicensed agencies
UNLICENSED ticket agencies are being removed from a major online sales site following complaints about overcharging and unfair refund policies.
Ctrip.com has begun to remove agencies in accordance with a list issued by China Southern Airlines, a Ctrip official said yesterday.
China has over 30,000 ticket agencies registered with the China Air Transport Association. Airlines have a list of their ticket agencies.
Xiong Xing, the official with Ctrip.com, said that the business licenses of all ticket agencies on Ctrip.com and its mobile phone app would be publicized “very soon” for the benefit of passengers.
Many unlicensed air ticket agencies have been found overcharging by adding insurance or other service charges and to have refund policies not in line with the airlines whose tickets they sell.
A Shanghai passenger surnamed Chen complained to Xinhua news agency recently that she bought a full-price ticket from Shanghai to Guangzhou on Qunar.com in November but when her plans changed she was asked to pay a 600 yuan (US$96) refund fee, 80 percent of the price.
She later found that the ticket was sold by an unlicensed agency. In another announcement yesterday, Ctrip.com said that it had set up a 100 million yuan fund to pay compensation to passengers if flights are delayed or canceled due to bad weather.
