China orders airlines to reroute flights over E. Ukraine
TWO Chinese airlines said yesterday they will redirect flights scheduled to pass through Ukrainian airspace in the wake of the Malaysia Airlines tragedy.
The statements came after the Civil Aviation Administration of China asked all of the nation’s carriers to reroute flights that would normally fly over the area.
China’s airlines make “28 round-trip flights” a week through the airspace, the regulator said on its website.
China Eastern said it has adjusted the one route it usually flies over Ukraine.
Flag carrier Air China said it, too, has arranged for flights on its Beijing-Rome route to be redirected.
