Flood traps miners
NINE miners were still trapped yesterday in a flooded colliery in southwest China's Guizhou Province, as continuous rainfall has hampered the rescue effort, local authorities said. By yesterday, rescuers had recovered the bodies of two miners and were pumping out water to reach the trapped workers at the Xinsheng Coal Mine in Qiaojia township, Yanhe Tujia autonomous county, said a rescue expert on the scene. The shaft flooded on Thursday morning when 23 miners were underground. Twelve escaped.
