Floods kill 6 in Hubei Province: ministry
HEAVY rains and floods in central China's Hubei Province had killed six people and left two missing, the Ministry of Civil Affairs (MCA) announced today.
About 3.15 million people in the province have been affected by the weather, with about 94,000 people evacuated, according to a statement posted on the ministry website.
Lingering heavy rains started to fall on the province on July 1 and more than 5,000 houses had collapsed, the ministry said.
A level IV plan, the lowest of four responses, was initiated by the China National Committee for Disaster Reduction and the MCA.
Under the plan, the committee and MCA will send a work team within 24 hours to the region to assess damage, help the people affected and guide relief work.
